Congratulations Rachel Fairfax, who has been selected as a finalist in the 2014 Stanthorpe Art Prize (judged by Angela Goddard) at the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art.
Fairfax makes paintings from drawings of her environment; the seascape she live in and places she has travel to. Fundamental to Fairfax's painting practice is a process of working from drawings. It informs the mark-making and connection with life inherent to her work and practice. Ocean Swimmer, Pink Sky is a made from a drawing of a figure on the edge of the pool at Wylies Baths, Coogee.
The exhibition for the Stanthorpe Art Prize opens on the 28th of February in Queensland.
